From September 30, 2022 Vicona provider of motion capture technology and motion measurement solutions, announced this week that it has won an additional contract. Sandbox VRis a location-based virtual reality (LBVR) provider that has announced the opening of six new locations.
Vicon’s partnership with Sandbox VR began in 2019 to support the launch of the Amber Sky 2088 experience. This brings true free-roaming capabilities to the Sandbox VR immersive experience for the first time. According to the company, Vicon will be used to track all player movements in real time with high accuracy and low latency to create a seamless in-game experience. Since then, Vicon’s LBVR tracking technology has been installed in more than 26 of his Sandbox VR locations around the world.
Inspired by Star Trek’s “holodeck,” Sandbox VR utilizes Vicon’s LBVR tracking solution to deliver a futuristic VR experience for groups of up to six people. The opening of his five new venues in North America and the first in London, UK follows Sandbox VR’s ambitious growth following his US$37 million Series B funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz in late 2021. This is the latest stage of planning.

The opening is just the latest milestone for Sandbox VR and Vicon, as well as LBVR, to grow into what is projected to be a $20 billion market in the next five to six years. ”
